Frequently Asked Questions:

What in the world is a shoofly pie?

Shoofly Pie is a molasses and brown sugar based pie that is considered traditional in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and is also popular in the South. There are generally two versions of the shoofly pie - a wet bottomed and a dry bottomed version. Both feature two layers - a cakey/crumbly part and a gooey, molasses-y part. As their names suggest, the wet bottom version has more goo and less cake, and the dry bottom version has more cake and a thinner layer of molasses on the bottom crust. Our version is the dry bottomed version. Come on in and give it a try! We recommend it served slightly warmed with some freshly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Yummy.

I love pie and just want to talk about it OR I have a pie suggestion for you to make! Would you like me to share?

Yes! We love pie – all sorts of pie – and always welcome suggestions! We create a Pie of the Month every month and are always experimenting with new flavors/combinations. If the pie is a hit, it could become part of our main menu. Please submit pie suggestions to or post to our facebook wall: If you just want share your thoughts on pie, please email Kimmy at She’d love to hear from you.

How can I place an order for a pie?

Give us a call or send us an email! For most pies, we ask for a minimum of 48 hrs (2 business days) advance notice, but we will always do our best to fulfill your pie-desires! Also, you can always reserve pies for pickup later in the day (except certain holidays) based on what is on hand at the time – just give us a call! Please note that we require prepayment for all orders.

Please note: there are some products that require up to 7 business days advance notice depending on exact product/order quantities and ingredients on hand.
Please see our Special Orders section for more information on this.

For larger orders (10 pies or more) we appreciate 1-week notice, but again, call us if you are in a pie-emergency and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Please note that for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we feature limited menus and set order-by deadlines. We also make a limited amount of extra pie for day-of purchase on a first-come-first-served basis. Please call us for details or with questions.

Can you bake a pie in a customer’s pie pan from home?

We can usually accommodate a request to bake a pie in a customer’s pan, HOWEVER, we will charge more based on the extra amount of filling and/or dough required to do so. Please call ahead to discuss your options.

How should I store my pies?

Please be aware that we do not use any preservatives, dyes or coloring in our pies. They therefore should be consumed as soon as possible. Fruit pie is best stored at room temperature and in a cool dry place. Refrigeration is recommended if you will not be consuming the pie within 1-2 days, OR if the atmosphere is hot or humid (e.g. in the summer). Always keep cream pies, lemon meringue and key lime pie as well as all quiches and savory pies refrigerated until serving.

How should I heat up my pies?

Microwaving is possible, but will likely cause the crust to become soggy. Therefore, we do not recommend this method for heating.

The best way to warm pie is to heat the oven at 375-400 degrees for:

Pot Pies – 18-20 min (mini 5"), 40-50 min (large 9")

Quiches & Mac n' Cheese Pie – 13-15 min (slice), 30-45 min (whole)

Whole Fruit Pies – 15-20 min

Onion Galette, Slices, Mini Fruit Pie – 4-6 min

I am interested in joining the Shoofly Family. How can I apply?

The best way to apply for a position is to send a cover letter and resume to Kimmy at You can also drop off your information at the store during business hours. If we have any positions open and are interested in interviewing with you, we will contact you!

I would like to request a donation from Shoofly. How can I do so?

We are constantly inundated with requests for donations. While we'd love to be able to donate to all causes, we unfortunately have to pick and choose based on several factors. We gladly accept requests for donation at our store (please be prepared to drop off your information at the counter, we WILL review them) or via email to Please be assured that if we are interested in donating to your cause we WILL get back to you by the deadline. We try to get back to everyone even if we are not able to donate but again, we receive so many requests that sometimes time does not allow us to do so. Thanks for your understanding.
